Hydro mechanical deep drawing
Hydro mechanical deep drawing is a technique that has been used for a very long time but unfortunately has been forgotten.. Several years ago, Geerts Metaalwaren decided to bring new live to this technology. . One feature of this technique is the bath in which an emulsion of oil and water is put under presssure to get the desired effect.
The blank (roundel) is clamped between the ( ) and the edge. Then the hydro-bath is pressurized. This leads to a slight bulging. . Then the nipple is mounted on the third cylinder, against the bulging in, and pushed in the hydro bath..The material is being formed around the nipple. Because the emulsion in the bath is also under pressure, the material is beautifully, smoothly and tightly pressed against the nipple.
The advantage of this technique is that the tensile ratios are much better than in conventional deep drawing. In some cases, further operations are not necessary .It also leads to lower tool costs because the hydrobath in part takes over the function of the tool.
Another advantage is that very exotic and extreme forms are possible. Think of sharp transitions or asymmetric shapes. The only condition is that the product must be free from electric loading.
